Voorpret…In the mood….Dans l’ambiance

With us you get a second chance

Ah you’ve missed your first May bank holiday weekend in Sigogne, well there’s a second chance to come and stay for the last May bank holiday here.

Bank-Holiday

The 27th of each month there is a huge market in Rouillac (10 minutes drive) where they sell typical French saucisse, hats, table cloths, duvet covers, mugs, jars, leather items, ladies, gents and kids clothing, pans, screws, chickens, you’ll name it, they have it and there are some really quality items there too.
On the 28th we celebrate Mothers Day in France…just saying….

Whether you want to relax,  enjoy one of the beautiful sandy beaches at the Atlantic Ocean, visit the nearby town of Cognac with Otard, Martell, Hennessy…., we live here for 10 years now so we know what to advise you.

In this period the weather normally feels already like the end of spring, beginning of the summer. The evenings are longer, even on a cloudy day it’s still light at 9:30PM. When the sun comes out, you can really feel the warmth on your face.

We have some limited availability, depending on your arrival day, so don’t miss out your second chance.

A bientôt!

Never a dull moment -for guests- in Au Bellefleur

In English, French and Dutch

What an adventure. 3 kittens found in a girls garden and 7 kids of the village came to us if they were ours. No but luckily we had some kittens milk and we found a family in the village who’s cat just had babies and she was kind enough to take them all. We looked and the new mother cleaned them already. But see how sweet our Clover was and I heard that she has been calling them when we left to find them a home.

Quelle aventure.

A French party in the country

We have been invited to join a surprise birthday party for our neighbour-friend who became 60.  Friday night was the night! The birthday man first had to attend a meeting about the next big event in our village, the l’exposition des VOITURES DE l’AMICALE DES MECANIQUES SIGOGNAISES on Sunday 30th April.
We have been asked to enter through the kitchen of the Salle de Fete quietly because the meeting was in another room, adjoining the one where we would party.

It was a well kept surprise because our friend wasn’t suspicious and when his friends showed up and he saw the tables, disco, etc. he became quite emotional.
The persons who organized it, done a great job, with an extended apero (home made punch which is always very popular, ricard, cognac schweppes and pineau, the local drinks,) etc. A variety of verrines and canape’s.
Just before 10 PM we started with the first courses, lovely pasta salad and rice salad with tuna, greek salad, crab mousse. Fantastic and we were with 60 persons!
Music was played from various era, starting to my surprise with ‘Comment ça va from the Dutch boys band, The Shorts’. Within 15 minutes we had 5 songs from different countries. Modern Talking songs are always a hit as well as Cotton Eye Joe and French people love Line Dancing and rock ‘n’ roll. There was a lady in her 70’s wearing high heels and she was for me the ‘Dancing Queen’ of the evening.
Oh and I had my special dances with Mr Birthday himself who had asked for me Julien Clerc.
Time to dance in between the courses.  You won’t believe that there were more men dancing than women.
The next dish was a lovely boeuf bourguignon. Of course a French evening is not complete without different cheeses and a fantastic and huge birthday cake with champagne.
With these kind of party’s the unannounced ‘dress code’ is informal/casual but don’t be surprised if people are wearing workman’s trousers and trainers.

Everybody is wearing what he or she wants which is great.
The pictures will tell the story of a lovely evening.

Spring, Le Printemps, Lente

Just a floral greeting  from our garden near Jarnac & Cognac.
The first blossom is the apple one, but we have more apple trees, cherry trees and prunes.
The camelia came as a present from my mother when we were in The Netherlands earlier in March. This is one of the 4 bushes of rosemary we have, none of the other herbs we grow is doing so well. The 2 types of tulips came up after 3 years doing nothing and we had given up hope and thought the the squirrels would have eaten the bulbs.

Also a French happy song from 1976 called ‘Le Printemps’ by Michel Fugain & Le Big Bazar. Michel Fugain (75 years old) is still performing and I have seen an open air concert of him a few years ago during the annual foire in Barbezieux which is 30 km from us.
